Since taking over as Director of the Teamsters Airline Division in 2008, Capt. David Bourne has made it a priority to make the issues and concerns of members of the airline industry known on Capitol Hill. By bringing to light safety, outsourcing and labor issues, Bourne encourages our nation’s lawmakers to pass pro-labor, anti-outsourcing legislation. In doing so, the airline industry becomes safer, stronger and more secure for the flying public and airline industry employees, including Teamster members.
The Teamsters Airline Division has a strong presence on Capitol Hill thanks to the work done by Bourne, the Teamster Airline Division Staff and the Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition (TAMC). To date, Bourne, Teamster Airline Division staff and members of the TAMC have held close to 200 meetings on Capitol Hill with the staff of key politicians to push Teamster and airline division agenda.
Among those who Bourne and TAMC members have held meetings with include the staff of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Denis Kucinich (D-OH), Rep. Tim Holden (D-PA), Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX), Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-MO), and Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA).
