Airlines to Earn Record Profits Next Year as Mergers Pay Off

Airlines will post record earnings next year as a wave of consolidation and streamlining prompted by the global slump helps rein in capacity and support prices, the International Air Transport Association said. Carriers will earn a combined $19.7 billion in net income in 2014

United Airlines Aims For $2B In Yearly Cost Savings

United Airlines said Tuesday that it will cut costs, overhaul its website, and shift flying from Asia to Europe as it aims to keep shareholders happy. United didn’t announce any furloughs as part of the cost-cutting measures outlined on Tuesday in a presentation to investors.

Letter: Unilateral Company Changes to Sub-CAL, Sub-UAL Mechanics’ Benefits Violate Contracts

In a letter to United Airlines Senior VP Douglas McKeen, Teamsters Airline Division Director Capt. David Bourne has submitting a class-action grievance on behalf of sub-CAL and sub-UAL mechanics, protesting the company’s unilateral changes that constitute a reduction in health benefits in violation of contractual agreements. The letter also requests more information on company changes to life insurance benefits and requests that United cease all unilateral changes to health benefits. Click here to read the letter.

UAL/CAL/CMI Mechanics Update – May 10, 2013

The week was very busy for the subcommittee meetings involving benefits including medical and pensions. J.J. Johns from the Benefits committee was brought in to assist in the benefits talks between the parties last week and continued assistance in this week’s round.

UAL/CAL/CMI Negotiations Update - April 28, 2013

The parties met in Phoenix this week, aided by Senior Mediator Pat Sims and Mediator Michael Kelleher of the NMB. Comprehensive proposals were exchanged that included wages, benefits, retirement security and scope.

UAL/CAL/CMI Mechanics Dispatch – April 15, 2013

Last week, negotiations continued in Chicago. The parties focused on developing comprehensive economic proposals. While no proposals were exchanged during this session it is expected that the parties will begin exchanging proposals the week of April 22nd in Phoenix. Negotiations will move back to Chicago the week of the 29th.

UAL/CAL/CMI Negotiations Update – March 2, 2013

The parties have now reached conclusion in principal on the entire agreement for non-economic Phase 1 issues. The work of crafting language will continue in parallel with the negotiation of Phase 2 economic discussions.

UAL/CAL/CMI Mechanics Update - February 24, 2013

Last week, the language committee met to go over, line by line, the changes agreed to in principal by the sub committees over the last six weeks. Between the three separate agreements there were over 100 items in 24 articles and provisions that required review for Phase 1 in order to correctly draft the new language.
