Teamsters Local 2727: UPS Aircraft Mechanics Vow to Stand Up

(WASHINGTON) – With the start of the holiday shopping season just weeks away, mechanics and other workers who ensure UPS’s (NYSE: UPS) fleet of jet engine aircraft are operational and safe are heading into negotiations with the company. 

UPS, a multi-billion-dollar company, is calling for a massive reduction in both active and retiree health benefits for 1,200 maintenance workers who are critical to the company’s supply chain. Most do physically demanding and often dangerous work around jet engine aircraft and equipment, and toxic fuel, chemicals and exhaust.

Teamsters UPS Airline Mechanics Hold Job Actions at Customer Locations in Indiana

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – Teamsters Local 2727 airline maintenance technicians and related classifications picketed at customer locations in Indiana this week protesting deep concessionary contract proposals that would significantly increase health care costs and not improve wages for its members.

Workers held signs that read “UPS: Corporate Greed, Don’t Take Our Health Care” to draw attention to a company proposed 430 percent increase in health insurance premiums in the first year of a new contract.

NTSB Finds Pilot Error Caused UPS Airlines Crash

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has blamed pilot error for the crash of an UPS Airlines Airbus A300-600, which crashed on approach to Birmingham, Alabama, on Aug. 14, 2013.
