Seniority Integration Committee Update

The seniority committee met last week in Seattle Washington to discuss some open issues prior to returning to the task of merging the three seniority lists. Two members of the committee had been working closely with a representative from the company in going through each and every person on the seniority list to check for accuracy in order to ensure proper placement on the new combined list. As previously reported this task was halted last year as contract negotiations came to a standstill.

One of the main topics discussed was on the subject of tiebreakers. After reviewing the practical application of the previously agreed upon method it became clear that the randomness introduced would be difficult to manage when individual challenges to the list occur. The committee further studied ideas of settling ties that might occur due the merger of the lists without changing the current perspective of each independent seniority list as it relates to ties in seniority. The remedy for this is not a simple one but the committee is dedicated to finding a fair and balanced solution.

The process of merging the lists will resume in the coming weeks. The list will need to be completed in advance of, or at the same time as, an amalgamated agreement.

Teamsters Attend SFO Open House

Local 856/986 committee members attended the family day open house at the SFO maintenance base on Sunday the 12th.  The committee handed out union items to members and their families over the course of 7 hours. In attendance for the Teamsters committee were Tracy McCorckle, Ralph Ortiz, Greg Sullivan, Mike Albertine, Mike Valaderez, Lucy Ricard, Kaci Tkaczyk, Steve Anderson, and Dale Mitchell. In addition, Local 986 Principal Officer Chris Griswold, Local 856 BA Javier Lectora, and Airline Division Rep Bob Fisher joined the committee in talking with the members and their families. Joint Councils’ 7 and 42 attended with the Teamster rigs and the Atherton police department attended with their very unique 1966 Ford Mustang. Below are some pictures of the event.

Safety and EAP Committees Prepare to Meet with the Company

Ground and flight safety committee members, as well as EAP committee members, are scheduled to meet with the company on Tuesday the 14th. The committees will relay their thoughts to the company on what is needed in the new agreement to ensure the continued success of these important programs.

Furloughed Members Urged to Update Their Addresses

Members on furlough are advised to keep their addresses current with the company while on layoff. It is predicted that there will be many movements this year and there have been several members that have been removed from the seniority list because old addresses were on file when notices were sent.

If you are in touch with a furloughed member, please forward this information to them. Updates may be emailed to: . The ESC will provide a fax number and ask members to send the address change accompanied with a signature.
