NMB Approves US Airways Election to Move Forward

Today, June 6, the National Mediation Board (NMB) announced that the Teamsters Union has a showing of interest (sufficient authorization cards) and will be scheduling an election soon. This is a huge step forward in our campaign to win a more secure future as Teamsters at the world’s largest airline. Now, we will truly have a choice for better representation moving forward. Union Raids at AMR, US Airways Reflect Democracy, Expert Says

The labor movement generally opposes union raids on already unionized workplaces, but a contrarian university professor said that opposition is unwarranted because the raids reflect the democratic process and give workers an opportunity to be heard.

American Airlines Mechanics File for Election to Become Teamsters

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – American Airlines mechanics and related workers filed for an election today with the National Mediation Board (NMB) as part of a months-long effort to become Teamsters. The petition for an NMB election comes on the heels of a similar move by US Airways mechanics seeking Teamster representation who filed for their election earlier this month.

The week was very busy for the subcommittee meetings involving benefits including medical and pensions. J.J. Johns from the Benefits committee was brought in to assist in the benefits talks between the parties last week and continued assistance in this week’s round.

This afternoon, the Teamsters officially filed for a representation election for mechanics and related at US Airways. Our future coworkers at US Airways have an overwhelming majority of Teamster cards signed. Today they announced they have petitioned the National Mediation Board for an election.

UAL/CAL/CMI Negotiations Update - April 28, 2013

The parties met in Phoenix this week, aided by Senior Mediator Pat Sims and Mediator Michael Kelleher of the NMB. Comprehensive proposals were exchanged that included wages, benefits, retirement security and scope.

Hoffa Visits Tulsa, Hears AA Mechanics’ Challenges and Hopes

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa visited American Airlines mechanics and related workers in Tulsa this evening. Sitting in a room filled with over 80 mechanics, Hoffa heard from campaign leaders and learned about the specific problems mechanics and related are facing. The mechanics in the room spoke about their frustration with the TWU in addition to asking Hoffa questions and expressing their hope for strong Teamster representation at AA.

UAL/CAL/CMI Mechanics Dispatch – April 15, 2013

Last week, negotiations continued in Chicago. The parties focused on developing comprehensive economic proposals. While no proposals were exchanged during this session it is expected that the parties will begin exchanging proposals the week of April 22nd in Phoenix. Negotiations will move back to Chicago the week of the 29th.
