(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – American Airlines mechanics and related workers filed for an election today with the National Mediation Board (NMB) as part of a months-long effort to become Teamsters. The petition for an NMB election comes on the heels of a similar move by US Airways mechanics seeking Teamster representation who filed for their election earlier this month.
Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa visited American Airlines mechanics and related workers in Tulsa this evening. Sitting in a room filled with over 80 mechanics, Hoffa heard from campaign leaders and learned about the specific problems mechanics and related are facing. The mechanics in the room spoke about their frustration with the TWU in addition to asking Hoffa questions and expressing their hope for strong Teamster representation at AA.
Last week, negotiations continued in Chicago. The parties focused on developing comprehensive economic proposals. While no proposals were exchanged during this session it is expected that the parties will begin exchanging proposals the week of April 22nd in Phoenix. Negotiations will move back to Chicago the week of the 29th.

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa visited US Airways mechanics and related in Charlotte on Wednesday, April 10 to hear about the problems and challenges they are facing. The workers, who are leaders in the campaign to form a union with the Teamsters, gave him an earful about their problems and the terrible representation they are getting from the IAM.
